About Us
Inovue was formed in 2022 by Doug Rupert and Tom Ring joined shortly after. The goal in forming Inovue was to shorten the distance between Intellectual Property legal services providers and clients. Between Doug and Tom, Inovue has more than 50 years of experience in Patent Law and have worked on countless areas in a wide range of industries and specialties, including government, Fortune 500 companies: both as outside counsel and in-house, small companies, and start-ups. Inovue has the experience to handle complex matters, but its structure means that there are less administrative barriers between clients and their actual providers of legal services.
Our mission is to make navigating all aspects of innovation and protecting Intellectual Property Patent Law as easy for clients as possible. Hard-earned ideas and products deserve to be protected, but in a practical and cost-effective way. We know how to protect IP from multiple views, whether you need to identify and harvest new IP, obtain a new patent or trademark, or need assistance in patent licensing or technology transfer we can help you to achieve your goals. We have consistently demonstrated the ability to guide clients to monetize their IP portfolios and have provided the requisite due diligence for IP asset acquisition.

Doug Rupert
Beginning my career in the US Patent & Trademark Office was the best apprenticeship I could have hoped for. Since then, I have worked both in-house and as outside counsel with hundreds of clients to formulate IP strategies and protect businesses.

Tom Ring
I have worked with Patents & Trademarks for more than 25 years. Whatever you need in this area I have likely seen it before and produced positive results. My proudest moments include winning an IP case resulting in one of the largest jury verdict punitive damage awards in the U.S. at that time and subsequently starting and building a patent legal group in one of the more prestigious general law firm practices in the Chicago market.
